Localize Potsdam – Festival for City, Culture and Art, throughout Potsdam, until 16 June
Today marks the sixth year that Potdam’s non-profit, Localize, hosts a celebration of the city, along with its culture and art.
Each year, the four-day festival features a broad range of things to do and see — from art installations in abandoned or closed down buildings to music concerts and other performances, to film showings and even debates — all in the attempt to create an environment where people from both high culture and alternative scenes can meet, discuss, and exchange ideas in urban spaces.
This year’s theme is Zug um Zug, and appropriately, the central spot is Bahnhof Pirschheide, a ghost station, inactive since the late 2000s. Situated in West Potsdam, Pirschheide was a busy thoroughfare in the GDR and served for some time as Potsdam’s central station.
After the reunification, traffic slowed and eventually it was shut down. For a few days, this station will come back to life as it plays host to this cultural forum. Natalye Childress
